A cafe moving into a former church comes with one unusual design advantage: the room already knows how to gather a crowd.
Wildflower Cafe is now open at 913 S. Boulder Ave. in Downtown Tulsa’s Cathedral District after relocating from the Pearl District. Its new home is inside the former First Christian Church, and Downtown Tulsa Partnership says Wildflower kept elements of the church’s architecture and original seating as it settled in.
The seating stayed. The orders changed.
Wildflower’s current menu keeps the daytime-cafe part familiar: breakfast all day, lunch and desserts baked in-house. French toast, pancakes and waffles share the menu with sandwiches, soups, cakes and cookies. Breakfast runs all day, which is useful for anyone whose relationship with pancakes has never been especially interested in clocks.
The new address also gives the Cathedral District something different in its daily rhythm. Downtown Tulsa Partnership describes Wildflower as the district’s first full-service restaurant. A part of downtown known for its historic churches now has another reason to draw visitors before an event, after a morning downtown or simply because lunch sounds better somewhere with a little character.
Wildflower is already open, which is worth separating from another date on the calendar. Downtown Tulsa Partnership’s September announcement lists Thursday, October 8 for a planned grand reopening and unveiling of the full-service coffee bar. That is a celebration of the new home—not the first day the cafe is serving.
For a regular visit, Wildflower’s website currently lists hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with seating ending at 2 p.m. Parking is behind the building on the east side, accessible from Main Street, and guests enter from Boulder Avenue under the neon sign.
If the October 8 coffee-bar unveiling is the reason for the trip, check Wildflower’s latest update before heading downtown. The current evidence supports the milestone as planned, but not as independently reconfirmed by the owner after the original announcement.
The former First Christian Church already knew how to be a gathering place. Wildflower is giving the room a new routine: breakfast, lunch, something sweet and a little more life on Boulder Avenue.
